Aims and objectives

· Provision of foodstuff and essential commodities to emergency consumers (foodgrain imports, rations);

· Build up emergency stock (safety stock);

· Helping achieve self-sufficiency in food grains production (traditional collection);

· Expanding the social safety net (VGD, VGF, Kabikha and TR);

· Achieving Price Stability (OMS).

· Effective and reliable food procurement, supply and distribution management

· Achieving farmer and consumer-friendly food price structure.

· Introduction of effective and up-to-date food distribution systems/methods.

· Successful management of drought and famine and food crisis situations.

· Providing food procurement assistance to poor and socially deprived people.

· Integrating food security policy with disaster management/relief distribution management.

· Timely delivery of foodgrains to the public in targeted sectors.

· Developing a professional, competent and efficient workforce.



Activities


· Managing and managing the overall food supply of the country.

· Implementation of national food policy framework.

· Establishing reliable national food security systems.

· To establish uninterrupted supply of food crops.

· Formulating and implementing various developmental projects (schemes) in the food sector.

· Monitoring the food supply situation in the country.

· Collection and distribution of food grains and other food items such as sugar, cooking oil, salt etc.

· Ensuring distribution system of food items in rationing and other distribution sector.

· To ensure stable market prices of food items.

· To ensure the storage and preservation of sufficient quantity of quality food.

· Matters related to food budgeting, accounting and finance, food planning, research and monitoring.

· Ensuring minimum support price for food crops produced by producers.

· To conduct research on any matter assigned to this department.
